What to expect at padel speed dating: a first-timer’s guide

Never been to a padel speed dating event? Here’s the whole afternoon, start to finish, so you know exactly what you’re walking into.

What it actually is

Padel speed dating is a social afternoon of mixed doubles for single people. We call our format Match Play: six games of padel, a new partner every game, a host on every court, and relaxed mingling between games. There are no timed dates and no assigned conversation partners. You chat with whoever you like.

It’s social, not competitive. Nobody keeps score, and nobody minds a missed smash.

Before the day

  • Book your ticket. Choose a men’s or women’s ticket, so numbers stay equal. You can book for your single friends too, up to 6 tickets in one order, with each person’s details at checkout.
  • Tell us your level. We ask your padel level when you book and use it to help balance the courts.
  • Set up your guest profile. Your first name, a photo and how a match could reach you. It takes two minutes, and it needs finishing by the end of the event day so you appear for matching.

Arriving

For our first event, First Serve at Hurlands Pickleball + Padel Club in Farnham, doors open at 1:30pm and parking is free. You check in, collect your group wristband and meet the hosts, who explain how the afternoon runs and how matching works.

Coming on your own? That’s exactly what the hosts are there for. Roaming hosts look after check-in, introductions and anyone flying solo.

The games

From 2pm to 5pm the courts rotate. Each game is mixed doubles with a new partner, so you’ll play with six different people. Your court host runs the game and calls your group back on when it’s your turn.

See how the afternoon works for a worked example of the rotation, including a picker that shows one player’s whole afternoon.

Between games

When you’re off court, the time is yours. Wander between the courts, say hello to whoever you choose, grab a drink or take a breather. There’s no list of people to work through and no stopwatch.

After the games

When the courts close, the conversation carries on in the club room and bar. The bar is pay as you go.

The morning after: matching

From 9am the next day you have 48 hours to choose Date, Friend or No for each person who was there. Nobody ever sees what you chose. If you both say yes, it’s a match, and we share only the contact details each of you picked. Read more about how profiles and matching work.

What to wear and bring

  • Sportswear and trainers suitable for indoor courts
  • Rackets and balls are provided
  • A towel, if you’d like to use the showers afterwards
