COMING SOLO
Coming on your own? You won’t be on your own for long.
Booking a singles event solo takes a bit of nerve. So here’s exactly how your afternoon goes, start to finish, with a host on every court and roaming hosts looking after you throughout.
YOUR AFTERNOON
Start to finish, as a solo guest
Timings for First Serve: Saturday 16 January 2027, Hurlands, Farnham.
Before the day
Once you’ve booked, we’ll email you a link to set up your guest profile: first name, a photo and what you’d share with a match. Takes two minutes.
1:30pm · Arrive
A roaming host meets you at check-in, tells you which group you’re in and introduces you to a few people in it. You won’t be stood by the door working out where to go.
2pm · First game
Your court host calls you on. Every game is mixed doubles with a new partner, so the people you meet change all afternoon. Nobody is keeping score.
Between games
Time to chat courtside. Not sure what to say? There are question cards on the tables, and the roaming hosts are there to bring people together.
5pm · Play finishes
Six games later you’ve played with six people and talked to plenty more. Carry on the conversation in the club room and bar until around 6:30pm, drinks pay as you go.
The next morning
Choices open at 9am for 48 hours. Pick Date, Friend or No for each person you met. Only mutual matches are shared, so nobody ever sees a one-way pick.
HONEST ANSWERS
The things people worry about
Everyone else will know each other.
Plenty of people book on their own, and the afternoon is built around it. You get a new partner every game, so everyone is meeting new people from the first rally to the last.
I’ll end up stood on my own between games.
That’s exactly what the roaming hosts are for. They introduce people, keep conversations going and look out for anyone on their own. There are question cards on the tables too.
My padel isn’t good enough.
Some experience is recommended, so you can keep a rally going, but it isn’t competitive and there’s no scoring. It’s about the rallies and the chat. Rackets and balls are provided.
What if I don’t fancy anyone?
Then there’s no awkward moment. Nothing is decided on the day. Afterwards you can choose Friend instead of Date, or No, and one-way choices are never revealed to anyone.
What if someone makes me uncomfortable?
Tell any host and they’ll deal with it, quietly and straight away. Everyone who books agrees to our Code of Conduct. Read the Code of Conduct
Can I bring a mate for moral support?
Of course. You can book up to six men’s and six women’s places in one order. You’ll still play with new partners, so you’ll meet people either way.
YOUR HOSTS
A host on every court, with roaming hosts
Court hosts run each game and call you on. Roaming hosts do the welcomes and introductions, keep the afternoon moving and look after anyone who came alone. They’re easy to spot in their MXS shirts.
Come on your own. We’ll do the introductions.
