Why it can feel harder
- Your circle shrinks. Friends settle down, and nights out become dinners in.
- Time is tighter. Work, commuting and life admin eat the week.
- App fatigue is real. Endless chats that never become a date wear anyone down.
- Outside London, it can feel quieter. Plenty of people in Surrey are single. They’re just not all in one place.
What’s better about it
You know who you are, what you like doing on a Saturday, and what you’re not willing to settle for. That makes dating simpler, not harder.
What helps
- Make one plan a week that puts you near new people. A club, a class, a social sport.
- Say yes to the invitation you’d usually skip. Friends of friends are still how lots of couples meet.
- Choose events built for single people, so you’re not guessing who’s available.
- Be clear early, kindly. If you want something serious, it’s fine to say so.
- Make friends along the way. Not every great meeting needs to be a date.
